Counting Material Possessions

Minimalism is a tool that can help you focus on living a meaningful life. It does so by thoughtfully eliminating superfluous items from our lives in favor of what is necessary, useful, and beautiful.

It’s not a game where the person with the least stuff wins, in fact, counting material possessions is not a point at all.

There is no number of material possessions to strive for with minimalism. Obsessing over whether or not you have more than X (insert your number here) number of items is just as bad as impulsively buying more than you need. In both instances, there is an overemphasis on the stuff.  Therefore, don’t worry about the number, and embrace minimalism as a process of continuously letting go when you’re ready to declutter.

P.S.: If you want to count or restrict your material possessions, by all means, do so, just keep in mind what the true point of minimalism is. Either way, minimalism can help you live a better life, irrespective of how many shirts or shoes you own.

Cheers!
