A fit body, a calm mind, a house full of love. These things cannot be bought - they must be earned.
Naval Ravikant
Our body, mind, and spirit are inextricably linked. Neglect one aspect and most time another will start to fail too. If you start consuming junk food, your thoughts will be junk, and if your thoughts become junk, you might start creating it too.
The advertisement tells us we can’t figure out how to improve our health on our own and that getting healthy is a complicated process. And not only complicated but expensive too. But the truth is, it’s not. You can improve your health and thus the quality of life, the minimalist way.
We don’t think of simplicity as a means to better physical health, but I can tell you from my personal experience they are connected (have you ever met a minimalist who is overweight? I certainly haven’t.)
Living with intention and clarity can be more powerful than any drug on the market today because it makes us think about what really matters on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
I will share with you what I like to do regarding health, as a minimalist. In the long run, it’s always better to slow down and regain health, rather than ignore the problem until later.
Health is not valued till sickness comes.
Thomas Fuller
Most times health starts deteriorating because we’re going too fast. We think we’ll get healthier by going faster, but the opposite is true. We run around all day, and this makes us tired. When we’re tired we tend to choose unhealthy foods, and we want to drink. It’s a vicious cycle.
Stop moving so fast in order to focus and take care of your health – the most important thing you have in this life.
It’s hard to exercise or stretch for a certain period of time if we’re constantly checking Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Turn off your computer, smartphone, or any other digital device before you move to the next step.
I’ve found that stretching is one of the most effective ways to improve health. I stretch every morning after I wake up and after exercising. I also stretch a few times during the day. You can set aside 10-15 minutes a day for calm relaxed stretching. Listen to your body, and don’t force anything.
You don’t need to go to the gym or pay a personal trainer to exercise because traditional exercise is not mandatory. Sure, you can join a gym if you like it, but you also don’t need to. You can perform bodyweight workouts at home, in the park, or on the beach.
Run, swim, ride a bike, hike, dance, or do anything else you enjoy. The goal is just to move your body. You can also perform these activities with the family so everyone can improve their health and spend quality time with each other.
Whatever you choose, just do it consistently. Aim to move your body at least 5-6 days a week for a minimum of 20-30 minutes per day.
With a minimalist mindset, you begin to rid yourself of excess by focusing on important. Apply the same mindset to the food you eat and the products you buy. Heavily processed, chemical-laden and overly packaged food items don’t support this mindset, so eating whole, healthy foods and buying sustainable products becomes a natural choice.
Let your body dictate how much sleep you need. You may need 8 hours to get rested, or 6, or 9. Every body is different and will require a different amount of sleep. Most scientists recommend getting at least 6 to 7 hours per night. Operating on a deficit is unhealthy. Dedicate enough time to your Zzz-s and put the dot on ‘i’ to your health.
…
Here you have, 6 steps to cultivate minimalist health. Focus on applying those few steps consistently – slow down, disconnect, stretch, move your body, eat the right food and get enough sleep – and you’ll improve your health, fitness, and quality of life, the minimalist way.
Improving one’s health is the foundation of a happy life. Without it nothing else matters. I want you to feel great so you can better enjoy the only life you have.
Health is a relationship between you and your body.
