There are two places we can live from – scarcity and abundance. Neither of these places is real – they represent two different mindsets. These mindsets can play a significant role in how we make decisions, how we spend, what we buy, and how we live day by day. Understanding the difference and practice the one that suits us better is life-changing and can help us understand the world and experience of life.
In the last blog post we were talking about scarcity mentality, so today we will focus on its opposite – abundance mentality.
As the famous quote suggests:
The secret to having it all is believing you already do.
Unlike scarcity mentality, the abundance mentality stems from a deep inner sense of self-worth and security. It believes that there are plenty of resources out there for everyone. Abundance is about all the good in life. People with an abundance mentality see possibilities and focus on what they already have, instead of what they’re lacking. They focus on what they are rather than what they’re not.
The result of an abundance mentality is sharing of knowledge, contacts, profits, recognition, compassion, and decision making. It is a mentality of possibilities, options, creativity, and alternatives. People with an abundance mentality are grateful for everything they possess and thus confident to embrace all the changes the future may hold. They think big and are not afraid to take risks to get even better and bigger results.
There are countless benefits to honing the abundance mentality. We feel more positive than negative emotions; we feel gratitude, confidence, hope, trust, security, curiosity, happiness, acceptance, and adequacy. Certainly, even when we’re positive about life, bad things will happen and we will experience negative emotions. However, these events won’t change our philosophy and thinking. We see ourselves as good enough and capable of accomplishing everything we set our minds to, even when we’re well aware that we possess weaknesses and make plenty of mistakes. This faith in ourselves helps us to experience the world as a good and overall friendly place.
People with an abundance mentality are more grateful, more creative, and more willing to share knowledge and collaborate with others. As a result, they attract more opportunities, and people with the same way of thinking into their lives. Their relationships are deeper and more genuine, therefore it’s easier to create an abundant future with the help of others.
If you don’t already have it, the following few tips will help you create an abundance mentality.
Jim Rohn famously said that we’re the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Therefore, it’s essential to surround yourself with like-minded people. Not just to build an abundance mentality, but for everything in life. Having people who will push you forward, encourage you, hold you accountable, and be happy for you and your achievements is a key to building an abundance mentality.
Tony Robbins said:
When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.
Grateful people practice gratitude. And when you want to build an abundant mentality, you have to be grateful, and appreciate everything you have. If you focus on positive experiences from the past and go into any new situation with a gratitude mentality, you will always expect positive outcomes, and consequently, your life will be better. A simple practice to help you build up gratitude muscle is to keep a gratitude journal and list 3 things you’re grateful for at the end of each day. Appreciate everything you have and abundance will naturally flow in.
According to Oprah Winfrey
If you look at what you have in life, you will always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you will never have enough.
By taking the time to notice what type of thoughts are in your mind, you can begin to make a conscious effort to shift your thoughts from scarcity to abundance. If your results are less than you know you can expect from yourself, ask: “Are my thoughts positive or negative?” “What can I do to shift my thinking to the one of abundance?”
The words you use, as well as what you say to yourself and others, shape your reality. It reinforces your beliefs and your perception. When you start using the right language, it becomes easier to think positively. Your brain becomes rewired. Once your brain knows you want to see positive results, it starts to filter all the negativity around you and you don’t have to work as hard to be positive.
Everyone has a set of unique strengths. Use them to make the life you want to live. Your strengths will help you be more confident, energized, and creative. They will be like the wind in your sails, and you may feel that anything is possible. It’s a growth mentality that will help you focus on your unique strengths, so you can tackle all the opportunities on your way with ease and confidence.
When you think you know everything, your ability to be creative, see things with a new eye, or hear it in a new way slowly weakens. The beginner’s mind is about having an open attitude, along with a willingness to override all existing preconceptions no matter how experienced you may be. Even when you know a lot about the topic, chances are another person can share some new worldviews with you. If you come to the conversation with a ‘closed know it all mind’, you won’t learn anything. I guarantee you.
While it may not be completely natural at first, anyone can begin to create an abundance mentality and live a meaningful life by taking consistent action.
Dream and think big. Learn every day. Increase your knowledge, and your worldview will change. New opportunities will come to your life that you didn’t even know existed. Life will bring you many changes, but no matter how difficult the change, with an abundance mentality, it will be much easier to embrace it – even when the change is complicated and hard.
Having an abundance mentality will help you start the business of your dreams, ask for a promotion you know you deserve, return to school for the degree you still want, bring you the courage to ask that cute woman or handsome man for a date, etc. Go after your dreams.
You’re the only person who has the freedom to choose what it wants.
So, which mentality will you choose?
Cheers!
