In a previous post we talked about the power of owning just one, and today there is a challenge for you. You may have read the last post and thought, “Oh, this sounds like a cool idea,” but that’s where it stopped. That’s why today I challenge you to really experiment with having only one thing for at least 30 days.
You don’t have anything to lose, and a lot to gain from this experiment.
Really challenge the idea that one is enough. Try with cups, plates, kitchen utensils, cosmetics, footwear, etc. At the end of this experiment, you might find that one is not enough or that one is actually too much in certain categories. But you’ll never know if you don’t try it for yourself.
Just because you have 10 perfumes or 20 pens, doesn’t mean you’ll be less of a person if you choose only one. If you have a family, ask them to join the challenge. Maybe you can all learn an interesting lesson about how much is enough.
To motivate you I created my own kits and will do the same experiment.
For example:
My kitchen kit contains:
1 plate
1 fork
1 spoon
1 knife
1 spatula
1 frying pan
1 bowl
1 pot
1 cutting board
1 water bottle
My wardrobe kit contains:
1 black T-shirt for gym
1 black shorts for gym
1 navy blue T-shirt for city
1 black shorts for city
1 set of socks (3)
1 set of underwear (5)
1 gym sneakers
1 pair of white sneakers for city
1 pair of flip flops
1 backpack
1 swimming shorts
1 sunglasses
1 card sleeve wallet
You got the idea…
You can create kits for almost every aspect of your life.
If you need more things in your wardrobe kit by all means add them. I live in a hot climate so those things are sufficient for my needs + I am also taking this experiment to challenge my presumptions about what I truly need and what I don’t.
